1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal (preferably with links to where people can hear them, and some kind of comment) with these instructions.

[ profile] misslynx gave me "G". Wow, "G" was hard! It turns out that I'm not that crazy about most of the songs in my library that begin with "G". Even so, I managed to picked out ten songs which then took well over an hour to narrow down to six (yes, I threw in a bonus track because everything is better with lasers bonus tracks).

Ghost by the Indigo Girls - If I could only choose one artist or group to write the soundtrack of my life it would be the Indigo Girls. This is one of the songs I always turn to when I'm heartbroken. Sometimes you just need to hear something that echoes your feelings and this may be the most perfect expression of the pain of lost love that I've ever heard.

A Guy Named Joe by Coyote Grace - Coyote Grace is one of my favorite new folk groups. This is a song that Joe, who is trans, wrote about his transition. Here is another little snippet of Joe and Ingred (the other half of CG) speaking and performing at a transgender workshop.

Gotta Have You by The Weepies - just a sweet little song about how when your having a bad day, sometimes the only thing that will make it better is the one you love. I love this little fan made vid. It's adorable.

Gasoline by Garrison Starr - Dysfunction junction. Garrison describes it best in the interview snippet before the song.

Gravel by Ani Difranco - There's always someone that you know you shouldn't let back into your life.

And just to prove that I occasionally listen to something other than folk music. ;-)

Gone Daddy Gone by Violent Femmes - Why? Because I <3 femmes. ;-)

Interesting things I learned about my music collection while working on this post:

There are four songs in my collection named "Gasoline", all by different artists. Garrison Starr, Sheryl Crow, Jann Arden and Po' Girl.

I have five different recordings of "Ghost", "Galileo" and "Get Out the Map" by the Indigo Girls.

I have ten distinct songs in my collection that begin with the word "ghost". The aforementioned "Ghost" by the Indigo Girls, two more named "Ghost" by Live and Namoli Brennet, "Ghost Boy" by Coyote Grace, "Ghost in the House" by Laurie Geltman, "Ghost in the Machine" by Randall Williams, "Ghost in This House" by Alison Krauss, "Ghost of Stephen Foster" by Squirrel Nut Zippers, "Ghost of the Gang" by the Indigo Girls, and finally, "Ghost Train" by Counting Crows.

I have a copy of "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" by none other than the Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith. How the hell did that get in there?!
